Sign on Bonus of $2,500 Available for Counselors.

 

Certified Substance Abuse Counselors are responsible for:

  • Prepares and conducts group counseling or therapeutic encounter sessions to promote the development of effective life skills to support a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
  • Provides individual client counseling, educational programs and lectures to address relapse prevention, problem solving, behavior modification, anger management, etc., and to assist in overcoming substance use disorder, adjusting to pro-social life, and making cognitive and behavioral changes.
  • Carries and maintains case load of up to 25 clients, per State and contract requirements. Conducts comprehensive client assessment to formulate diagnostic impression and through consultation with the supervisor prepares individualized treatment plans to meet developmentally appropriate goals, interventions and provide necessary support. 
  • Coordinates services to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations in support of continued recovery. 
  • Collaborates with client to develop discharge summaries and continuing care and relapse prevention plans to integrate aftercare treatment with referral resource services.
  • Documents treatment plans, narrative progress notes, interventions, treatments, evaluations, discharge summaries, treatment plan reviews, etc.; maintains client records and charts to ensure organizational, regulatory, accreditation, and contractual standards.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Must have one the following certifications or licenses: Certified Addiction Counselor from the Georgia Addiction Counselor’s Association (GACA), Certified Addiction Counselor from the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor from the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC), Certification as a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), Licensures include Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT),  Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS).
  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a helping profession from an accredited college or university.

  • Two (2) years counseling experience or working in a substance use disorder or mental health field
  • Strong knowledge of group and individual dynamics, conflict resolution, intervention techniques, and confrontation skills
  • Basic knowledge of federal  and state rules and regulations governing health records confidentiality
  • Strong communication skills to exchange information and interact with various internal and external audiences regarding client care
  • Active listening skills and social perceptiveness
  • Adaptability/flexibility: ability to shift priorities
  • Time and project management skills
  • Strong communication skills to exchange information and interact with treatment team, clients, and client families and outside vendors and agencies
  • Must be able to obtain Georgia Department of Corrections clearance to work in the correctional institution

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Works in a correctional facility
  • Ability to walk and move about the facilities for up to two hours at a time, to monitor and interact with clients
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data
  • Ability to record, proofread and check documents and files for accuracy
  • Ability to respond to telephones, and to hear and detect alarms and unusual noises
