GED Instructors are responsible for:

 

  • Teaches General Education Development (GED) preparatory classes to adults and prepares course objectives based on curriculum guidelines and state requirements. 
  • Maintains order in the classroom and ensures students adhere to policies and procedures, and notifies appropriate personnel of students failing to comply. 
  • Reinforces lesson concepts and principles by providing individual or group tutoring sessions and following-up with students to encourage and support learning and promote maximum potential
  • Performs a variety of related administrative duties such as answering telephones, relaying messages, responding to inquiries, ordering and storing supplies, and filing, photocopying and maintaining documents.
  • Attends professional conferences and workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence, collaborate with other professionals on the development of instructional programs, and to stay current on GED testing requirements and procedures.
  • May operate company vehicle to transport students to events or activities to reinforce and guide student learning from those activities. 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
  • Knowledge of examination requirements, material content and appropriate methods to teach GED preparatory classes at a level normally acquired by a minimum of two years previous relevant teaching experience.  Must be qualified to provide GED instruction and/or adult learning by maintaining a teaching certification by the State of Texas. 
  • General knowledge of the physical, cognitive and psychosocial functioning level of the population; and the demonstrated ability to appropriately interact, tailor interventions, including de-escalation techniques, and communicate with clients based on their individual maturation level.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Ability to communicate with others in order to gather and exchange information, and provide support.
  • Ability to stand or move about to monitor and interact with clients.
  • Ability to continually proofread, check and verify documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to read and check tests and assignments, and verify client attendance.
  • Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to enter, retrieve, and/or audit information and data on a continual basis.
