The Sr. Network Administrator is responsible for:

  • Primary lead for Agency telecommunications infrastructure, plans, implements, and manages telecommunications upgrades.
  • Ensures enterprise-wide connectivity, including the configuration of standardized network device monitoring, and the management of Agency-wide telecommunications, including Microsoft 365 and Hybrid Exchange.
  • Responsible for security of email systems, servers (including virtual), Cisco security systems, VPN connectivity, key technical resource for all Disaster Recovery (DR) events, and non-standard operating systems (Unix, Linux, etc.)
  • Works closely with Network Engineer to plan, configure, and document network hardware, SD-WAN, and VPN tunnels.
  • Troubleshoots complex application problems (those with a network-component), identifies and resolves all issues and consults with manager to resolve complex and/or unusual problems.
  • Responsible for LAN/WAN administration, which includes maintaining secure network access and resource availability at all organizational levels, managing user access for all systems, with particular emphasis on network communications systems, connectivity, and uptime of all sites.
  • Evaluates current hardware and software to determine viability; reviews new technology to enhance system, increase productivity or replace outmoded equipment; makes recommendations for lease purchase or discontinuation of same.
  • Evaluates and documents system performance, and makes recommendations for lease, purchase and discontinuation.
  • Participates in various projects or assignments, as a team leader or member, such as developing LAN/WAN policies and procedures, preparing system documentation for new or revised procedures, compiling reporting statistics, determining user needs; providing analysis, design, and technical writing for Request for Proposals; and reviewing event logs to identify system weaknesses in accordance with department and industry project management standards.
  • Member of rotation for after-hours support (AHS).
  • Keeps current regarding trends and developments in computer technology, infrastructure, network security, administration, system management, and emerging technology.
  • Key participant in ongoing company-wide migration to Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS).

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred (High School Diploma or equivalency required) 
  • 5 years progressively more responsible, related experience.
  • Current certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is preferred (not required)
  • Interpersonal and project management skills necessary to gather and exchange information, communicate policies and procedures, and explain technical problems to a variety of internal and external contacts, including consultants engaged on special network & security-related projects.
  • Analytical abilities necessary to monitor and evaluate system operations, recommend new business processes, develop system documentation, and identify system problems.
