  • Hybrid basis - initial period 3 days onsite and 2 days remote, once ramped up move to 2 days onsite and 3 days remote

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 37.5 hour work week

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior IT Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining our IT infrastructure, including networks, systems, virtual machines, servers, and security. The role involves overseeing Active Directory, phone systems, backups, switches, routers, firewalls, and Microsoft 365. This position is critical to ensuring the smooth operation and security of our IT environment. 

 

The Senior IT Administrator is responsible for:

Systems Administration:

  1. Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of server hardware and software.
  2. Manage virtual machines using VMware or Hyper-V.
  3. Maintain and monitor Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  4. Implement and manage Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange, SharePoint, and Teams.

 

Technical Support:

  1. Provide high-level technical support and guidance to IT staff and end-users.
  2. Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues.
  3. Maintain documentation of IT systems, processes, and procedures.
  4. Member of rotation for after-hours support (AHS).

 

Network Management:

  1. Design, implement, and manage LAN/WAN infrastructure.
  2. Configure and maintain network switches, routers, and firewalls.
  3. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure network availability and reliability.
  4. Manage VPN connections and ensure secure remote access.

 

Infrastructure Management:

  1. Ensure the stability and integrity of the organization's IT infrastructure.
  2. Implement and maintain disaster recovery and backup solutions.
  3. Monitor system performance, capacity, and security to ensure optimal operation.

 

Telecommunication Systems:

  1. Manage and maintain on premise and cloud phone systems and communication platforms.
  2. Ensure reliable and secure telecommunication services.

 

Security Administration:

  1. Implement and manage security measures, including firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.
  2. Develop and enforce IT security policies and procedures.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT administration, network engineering, or a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, hardware, and software.
  • Experience with server virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Proficiency in managing Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of firewalls, switches, routers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate with others in person or by telephone in order to gather and exchange information.
  • Ability to check and verify data and error messages from printed form and computer monitor display.
  • Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to enter, retrieve, and/or audit information and data; and system instructions and software commands.
  • Manual dexterity to use hand tools for any repairs, and to fix and adjust cable and wire connections.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds in order to position equipment, telephone, or computer hardware for installation and set-ups.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance to travel to various facilities when necessary.

 

Work Environment:

  • Office work environment, based in Chicago, Illinois.
  • Travel to sites across the country required as we operate as a national organization.
  • Works in normal data processing or office environment where there are relatively few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like.
  • May occasionally work in a corrections facility where there is exposure to potentially disruptive or violent inmates.  Potential for harm is limited if established security precautions and procedures are followed.

Compensation (based on experience and credentials):

  • $90,000 - $115,000 annually
  • Gateway Foundation conducts annual reviews including merit increases.
