This is a newly created role within the Fundraising Department. This is an opportunity to work hand-in-hand with our Fundraising Director to build this function in our organization. 

 

Responsibilities of the Development/Fundraising Associate: 

  • Responsible for the fundraising activities of Gateway in event coordination and execution, grant research and reporting, donor appeals and campaigns, and database management.
  • Plans and executes Gateway Foundation-sponsored Development Department events.
  • Assist with preparation, setup, and day-of event activities, along with follow-up needed to thank, steward and cultivate donors, and maintain accurate records, history and tracking.
  • Collect, track, and organize in-kind donations for various departments and fundraising events.
  • Maintain accurate records, donations, current contact info, and RSVPs in donor database, including data entry, running reports, and updating donor records.
  • Run, print, and send thank you letters to all donors in a timely manner through Bloomerang database.
  • Maintain and update annual calendar of events and programs, and other tracking mechanisms and software, utilized by the Development team.
  • Research new grant opportunities and assist in gathering information for grant applications, administration, data collection, and monitoring. Assist in the writing of grant applications.
  • Research and identify prospective new donors and proactively initiate sponsorship and funding ideas.

 

Requirements: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  •  3-5 years Non-Profit experience. Development, Communication, and Guest Service experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and database experience.  Bloomerang (preferred).
  • Must be available for evening and weekend functions.
  • Experience working with a diverse team and promoting a positive brand image.
  • Must possess effective communication, listening, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with supporting large-scale events, programs, and fundraisers.
  • Strong organizational, presentation, and priority-setting skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and be able to problem solve.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions delivered in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to learn and collaborate to bring “out of the box” ideas to the team
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Professional written and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively in person or by telephone in order to gather and exchange information and provide direction.
  • Ability to respond to telephone calls, emails, and hear speech.
  • Travel to meet external parties and coordinate events.

Work Enviorment: 

  • Office work environment, based in Chicago, Illinois. (Must be in office mimimum of 2 days per week)
  • Travel to sites across the country may be required as we operate as a national organization.
