RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  1. Prepares and administers medication as prescribed by a physician and documents same in the medication administration record.  Observes client’s physical, mental, and emotional conditions and reports any changes or concerns to nursing staff. Collects client sick call requests and performs data entry into system.
  1. Responsible for checking and monitoring client vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration rates, blood pressure and sugar levels; records client’s readings and other information pertinent to the clients medical needs and care.
  1. Performs other duties as necessary such as storing supplies, changing biohazard bags, answering telephones, relaying messages, filing, and scanning, photocopying and faxing documents.
  1. Utilizes medical case management best practices when interacting with and treating clients.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Knowledge of theories, principles and basic nursing concepts in order to effectively contribute to client’s medical care at a level normally acquired through successful completion of a formal medical assistant training program.
  1. Current certificate as a Certified Medical Assistant as required by agency, association, board or commission in State of employment location.
  1. Current CPR certification as required.
  1. Ability to read, write, understand and follow written instructions in order to take vital signs, administer medications and complete file work.
  1. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to exchange information and interact with treatment team and to appropriately interact with clients based on their individual maturation level.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Communication abilities necessary to gather and exchange information with clients and staff in person or by telephone, and provide care instructions.
  1. Ability to respond to telephone, pages and intercoms, and hear speech.
  1. Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data on a regular basis.

       4. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, if necessary, to assist clients who may require assistance
