The Community Relations and Grants Manager is responsible for:

  • Serves as the lead researcher for all grant opportunities, including government and foundation grants to make recommendations for Gateway to pursue. 
  • As identified represents Gateway at targeted community events with local city and county officials to promote the organization’s mission and vision in the community. 
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships between Gateway and members of the community, individuals and external organizations. 
  • Supports marketing initiatives by coordinating special events that promote treatment services and participating in activities to enhance the organization’s public profile. 


  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, healthcare, public policy or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years, progressively more, related work experience with grant applications and management, and community relations.
  • Knowledge of healthcare policies, regulations, funding, financing and relevant laws.
  • In-depth understanding of community relations and community structures, including community and advocacy as well as government entities and rules.
  • Advanced communication skills to effectively write grants, present complex information in-person and in writing. 
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to gather and exchange information and interact with various internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and partnerships within the healthcare advocacy community, including local and virtual community leaders and advocates. 
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to source opportunities and submit grant applications on behalf of the organization.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to events, local or statewide, to represent the organization. 
  • Ability to walk and move about at events for up to two hours at a time to network, host or present. 
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard and display monitor to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Search Engines and software to source opportunities and submit grant applications. 
  • Ability to record, proofread and check documents for accuracy.
